History
Louis J. Swingler started Swingler Construction in 1946. Most of his construction projects included remodeling and residential additions. Louis had three sons who all joined the business, Robert in 1947, Gerald in 1952, and Louis Jr. in 1962.
In 1963 the company formed a corporation, L. J. Swingler & Sons, Inc. Until his passing in 1972, Louis Swingler enjoyed seeing his once small business flourish through the efforts of his sons. In those early years of growth, Swingler Construction was affiliated with Ohio Valley Homes, a manufacture of pre-fabricated homes. During the mid 60's, Swingler's phased out home building because of the increased demands for commercial development in the Teutopolis and Effingham areas. As a result, Swingler Construction became a leading provider of pre-manufactured steel buildings, and currently one-third of their construction projects utilize metal buildings systems.
Robert's two sons, Steve Swingler (who joined the company in 1973) and Dave Swingler (who joined in 1979), worked under his direction until 1992, when Robert retired from the day-to-day operations to take more of a consulting position within the company. Shortly thereafter in 1994, Louis Jr. passed away, followed by Gerald's death in 1998, and Robert's death in 2009. Swingler Construction continues with a fourth generation of the Swingler Family with Steve's son, Brian Swingler (who joined in 1996), Steve's son-in-law, Tony Hakman (who joined in 2000), and Dave's daughter, Alicia Swingler (who joined in 2007).
Today, as a result of hard-working employees and satisfied customers, L. J. Swingler & Sons, Inc. is thriving with construction projects. Both Steve and Dave attribute the success of L. J. Swingler & Sons to the company's team concept and its dedication to the growth of the Teutopolis, Effingham, and surrounding communities. L. J. Swingler & Sons looks forward to continuing to serve the community with the same dedication and workmanship they have provided for more than 60 years.
